The stage designs are varied and prove to be a fun challenge, but I think where this falls flat are the regular enemy encounters - at the start they're hopping, dodging, blocking and even targeting your position, and you have some with super armour on that can withstand more of your attacks and crush you. It's very heavily inspired by Dark Souls, yes, but I think the game needed to put players in more difficult positions to fully utilize their combat skills and experiences. The game has some design flaws in my opinion, though. I did enjoy it a lot, and it feels very nice to play, with some absolutely gorgeous pixel art and animation and fun level design. I beat this game on its true ending last night (bad ending the night before). Because I wouldn't mind searching for the remaining ivory bugs but I get through combat quickest with two slots for damage related options instead of needing to give one up for the ring that makes the tone near secrets. Even if it was something like 100% map completion though sooner would be preferable. I really wish there was something late game that would unlock a third passive slot. I can think of one time I died due to spikes and it was because I rolled when I meant to do something else so it was my own clumsy button hit. Either I'm simply more comfortable platforming than most or people just got worse at platforming because I rarely died to the spikes.

Skimming Steam reviews I see people complaining about the instant kill spikes. But yeah, it's quite possible to meet the requirements without knowing you will be prior to going into the fight. And if you get the bad ending the game is fairly blatant in telling you that you got the bad ending with the dialogue. If you're playing on Steam the achievement should pop for the true ending if you got it. I think my comfort towards the combat has sunk in and now I feel good zipping through things. I'm starting to feel that tug when I step away I just want to go back immediately and see what's next. Getting hit by bosses continues to be an instant death. I can still only take a single hit without dying from pretty much everything and I'm up to five bellflowers so that helps me last a bit longer. With how quick things go after a death I think hard mode was the right way to go because it feels rewarding and normal would possibly feel too easy. Rolling made it easy, though, so once you see the attacks and die it makes the next attempt go smoothly.

Just got through the second boss and she was a little tougher than the first boss.

I'm assuming it's consistent with all active items, though. Well, maybe that one still is and it's just the second active item I got refills like the bellflowers. I just assumed it was the bellflowers and the active item you can purchase early on would be a consumable. I just realized other active items refill at the bells.
